Branch 4 - From Desert to Garden

Year 3

In this unit, the children explored how Jesus feeding the multitude prepares us for the Eucharist, which brings us closer to Jesus and shows God’s care.  Inspired by the words of St Teresa of Avila, our Year 3 pupils explored what it means to be Christ’s hands and feet in the world, as part of our Desert to Garden unit. Reflecting on how small acts of kindness can bring hope and life to others, the children thoughtfully created their own prayers.

Year 4

In this unit, the children learnt about forgiveness, reconciliation,  and living faithfully during Lent.

They looked at Jesus’ parables and Holy Week to understand God’s love and Jesus’ example of serving others and showing kindness, mercy, and care for others. In one of the lessons, the children experienced what it would have felt like to be Peter and denied knowing Jesus three times.

Year 5

In this Branch, pupils explored God’s loving plan for salvation and learned how Lent was a special time to turn away from sin and grow closer to Him. They reflected on Jesus’ temptation in the wilderness, developed their understanding of conscience, moral choices, and St Paul’s teaching on love, and discovered how prayer, fasting, and almsgiving prepared Christians for Easter. Through learning about Holy Week, the Sorrowful Mysteries, and the Church’s teaching on eternal life, pupils recognised how Jesus’ Passion, Death, and Resurrection revealed God’s love, hope, and the promise of new life.

Year 6

In this Branch, pupils explored how St John’s Gospel helped them understand that Jesus’ suffering and death showed God’s great love and saving power. They learned about important events from Lent and Holy Week, including the anointing at Bethany, the washing of the disciples’ feet, the Last Supper, and the crucifixion, while exploring symbols that revealed who Jesus is. Pupils discovered how Jesus showed humble, self-giving love and taught his followers to serve others. They also recognised Jesus as the true Passover Lamb who fulfilled God’s plan to bring salvation.
