Branch 6 - Dialogue and Encounter

Year 3

Pupils explored the Jewish festival of Passover, learning how it commemorates the freedom of the Hebrew people from slavery in Egypt and is celebrated through the Seder meal and its symbolic foods. They made connections between Passover, the Last Supper and the Eucharist, deepening their understanding of Jesus as the Paschal Lamb and the new covenant. Pupils also learnt about Islam, exploring key Muslim beliefs, the Five Pillars and aspects of Islamic culture and worship.

Year 4

Pupils explored the life and mission of St Paul, learning about his encounter with Christ, his missionary journeys and the early Christian communities he helped establish.

They reflected on his commitment to sharing the Gospel and promoting unity within the Church, while considering how Christians from different cultures and denominations work together for the common good. 

 Pupils also celebrated the universal nature of the Church through their local and global community.

Year 5

Pupils explored the Bible as a collection of inspired writings, learning about its different books, authors and literary forms. They developed their understanding of how the Church helps Christians interpret Scripture and explored the relationship between the Old and New Testaments.

Pupils also deepened their knowledge of Judaism, learning about the significance of the Torah, the Hebrew language and key elements of Jewish prayer and practice, including the Shema and the mezuzah.

Year 6

Pupils explored how people of faith live as good neighbours by working together for justice, peace and the common good within their communities.  

They reflected on the importance of respecting the dignity of all people and learned about individuals and organisations involved in interreligious dialogue. Pupils also considered how beliefs and values shape a person's worldview. In the encounter dimension, they developed their understanding of Buddhism and explored how followers practise their faith in Britain.
